Roel Dieltiens Belgium

Roel Dieltiens is a Belgian cellist of world renown. From the very beginning of his career, his strong personality and unconventional approach opened the doors to the big stages all over the world. He also gained fame in chamber music and was the founder of Ensemble Explorations. The numerous recordings he has made, mainly for Harmonia Mundi, have won international awards and are often regarded as reference recordings. Since 2010, he has been performing with pianist Andreas Staier and violinist Daniel Sepec.

Although he mainly dedicates himself to the baroque and classical repertoire on period instruments, the modern cello is of great importance to him. He has thus successfully tackled the Romantic (e.g. Mendelssohn, Dvořák, Rossini) and 20th century (e.g. Kodály, Martinů) repertoire. His curiosity led him to retrieve forgotten compositions from under the dust (Servais, Franchomme, etc.) and generated flourishing collaborations with composers such as Victor Legley, William Bolcom and Luc Van Hove. Since 2002, Roel Dieltiens has led the cello class at the Zurich University of Arts.
