Ole Akahoshi United States • Germany

Born and raised in Berlin, Germany, Ole Akahoshi has earned the admiration of musicians and critics across the globe. He performed with orchestras such as the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Berlin Symphony, and Czech Radio Orchestra and at festivals including the Aspen, Banff, Bowdoin, Mimir, and Norfolk Chamber Music Festivals. Recent recordings comprise the Mendelssohn Octet with Gil Shaham, and works by Laderman, Bresnick, Ranjbaran, Tishchenko and Banshchikov. He has served as judge among others for the Aram Khachaturian International Cello Competition, Harmonium International Competition Armenia and Juilliard competitions. He studied with Pierre Fournier, Georg Donderer, Wolfgang Boettcher, Janos Starker and Aldo Parisot. 

 

Akahoshi is Professor at Yale University, where he is director of the Yale Cellos. He also teaches at the Manhattan and Longy School of Music. Akahoshi is cellist of the Horszowski Trio and principal cello of the Sejong Soloists. He plays on a Matteo Goffriller cello made in 1709 on a generous loan by Chairman Higgin Kim.
