Jury
Hiroyasu Yamamoto studied at the Toho Gakuen College Music Department with Yoritoyo Inoue, Chisho Akitsu and Nobuko Yamazaki.
As a student, he won numerous awards, including first prize at the 56th Japan Music Competition in 1987, second prize at the 1st Awajishima International Chamber Music Competition and first prize at the 1st Japan Chamber Music Competition.
After graduating with highest honours, he studied chamber music at the Chigiana Music Academy in Italy with Riccardo Brengola.
He became principal cellist of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra in 1990, and guest solo cellist of the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra in 1994. He became principal cellist of the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra in 1997 to 2019.
He has performed annually with the Saito Kinen Orchestra, the Miyazaki International Music Festival.
He is currently a professor at the Tokyo College of Music and director of the Japan Cello Society.
