Doo-Min Kim Korea

Cellist Doo-Min Kim was born in Seoul and began playing cello at the age of nine. He studied at Yewon School, the Korea National University of Arts, and later in Germany at the Hochschule für Musik Hannover (Diplom) and Hochschule für Musik Köln (Konzertexamen).

His teachers included Myung-wha Chung, Hyung-Won Jang, Tilmann Wick, and Frans Helmerson, with further masterclasses from Lynn Harrell, Arto Noras, and Boris Pergamenschikow.

 

Kim has performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, appearing with orchestras such as the Seoul Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, and Oslo Philharmonic under André Previn. He has won top prizes at the Dong-A Competition, Aspen Music Festival, and Paulo International Cello Competition, and received awards from the Verbier Festival and European Cultural Foundation.

 

A member of Mutter’s Virtuosi, he performs on a Vuillaume cello supported by the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation and has served as principal cellist of the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra since 2004.
